1. Open WS_FTP. Click File, then Connect, and choose Connection Wizard.

2. In the Connection Wizard, type in a label for the site. This could be anything that identifies your site. Click Next.

3. For Connection Type, choose FTP and click Next.

4. Type in the Server Address as your domain name without the www and click Next.

5. Type in your User Name and Password and click Next.

6. Uncheck Connect to site and click Finish. You have now configured your site inside WS Ftp 9 Home Edition.

The data connection mode can be modified as explained below:
a. Click File and then Connect to open the Site Manager dialog box.

b. Select the site in the Sites list, then click Edit.

c. Click Advanced. By default, the Passive mode is enabled. Uncheck Use Passive mode for data connections to enable Active mode.

d. Click OK and then Close to save the changes.

Follow the steps mentioned below to upload files for your website using the SmartFTP client.
1. Open SmartFTP. Under the File menu, click New Remote Browser.

2. Type in your domain name as Host. Also type in the FTP Username and Password. Make sure the Port is set to 21. Click OK to connect to the server.

Once connected, you will be displayed a pane which lists all the files and folders under your website.

3. Double-click the web folder to open it.

4. Under the File menu, click New Local Browser. This will open another pane listing your local files and folders.

5. Open the directory containing the files for your website..

6. Select the files to upload and click Upload button to upload the files onto the web server.

There are two ways in which the data connection mode can be modified.
A. Global Settings
a. Under Tools menu, click Settings.

b. Under the Connection dialog, change the Mode in the Data Connection section from Passive Mode (PASV) to Active Mode (PORT) or vice versa. Click OK to save the changes.

This change will affect all the sites for whom the data connection mode was set by default.
B. Favorite Item Setting
I. Under the Favorites menu, click Edit Favorites.

II. Select the site under Quick Connect folder, right-click and then click Properties.

III. Go to the Connection dialog and change the Mode in the Data Connection section from Passive Mode (PASV) to Active Mode (PORT) or vice versa. Then, click OK.

The change is saved and active for future FTP sessions of this site.

4. Right-click on the file and choose Upload.

The process of uploading content for your website using CuteFTP can be split into 2 steps:
Step I: Follow the process described to configure CuteFTP
1. Open CuteFTP. In the menu, go to File -> New ->FTP Site.

2. Enter your site details on the following page. For the Label, type anything to identify your site. For Host address, type in your domain name. Also type the Username and your Password for your domain name.

3. Click OK. Under General FTP sites, you would now see the site you have just configured.

i. Double-click the site you have configured as described above. This will make a connection to the server. Once you see the server files listed, double-click on web folder. Windows Server users need to open web folder.

ii. In the left pane in CuteFTP, click the Local Drives tab.

iii. Navigate to the location of your website files. Select all the file you would like to upload. Select the files to be uploaded and right-click on the selection and choose Upload.

iv. Your files should now be uploaded.

1. Before using this tutorial, be sure your site is configured in WS Ftp 9. A tutorial for configuring the site is available. Open WS Ftp. Click File, then Connect, and choose your site.
2. This will connect you to the server. Double-click the web folder.
3. In the left pane, you will notice your hard drive files are shown.
4. Navigate to the folder containing your website files.
5. Select all the files you wish to upload, then click the upload button. The upload button is the arrow pointing to the right.
6. WS Ftp 9 will upload your files to the server. They should now be listed in the right pane.
