Gossimer’s Premier Web Hosting and Domain Registration Knowledgebase.
When you place a request for a domain name to be transferred to Gossimer, the system retrieves the whois details for the domain name by connecting to port 43 on the current Registrar’s Whois server. Once these are obtained, the system sends the transfer authorization email (containing the FOA, or Form of Authorization) to the Administrative contact, as seen therein.
If the email was not received by the Admin contact, you can click on Resend Authorization Request in your Control Panel, whereupon the system sends the mail to the same email address, retrieved as mentioned above.
However, if you were to change the Administrative contact email address for your domain name after the authorization mail was sent, attempting to Resend Authorization request would still send the email to the old address.
As such, if you want the authorization mail to be sent to a different email address, the only possible method is to
1. Contact our Support Team at support@gossimer.com, and ask them to Cancel the transfer request
2. Modify the Admin contact email address at the Current registrar
3. Reinitiate the transfer request from your Control Panel.

You may get this error when you execute a Transfer for a Domain Name (except a .EU Domain Name) from another Registrar to Gossimer.
In order to ensure that, an Authorised person is placing this Transfer Request, we send an email to the Administrative Contact of the Domain Name for authorising the transfer. We need to fetch the e-mail address of the Administrative Contact from the Current Whois Record from the Losing Registrar.
If for some reason we are unable to contact the Whois Server of the Current Registrar you will get this message. There are two things you can do at this stage -
1. You would have received an e-mail with instructions on sending a Fax authorisation for these transfers. You can use that fax authorisation to action the transfers.
2. You can simply wait for upto 48 hours. We would attempt to contact your Registrars Whois server for the Administrative contact details every hour for 24 hours, and even try the same manually. In almost all cases we will be able to send the Administrative Contact E-mail within 48 hours.
IMPORTANT
This process would not be applicable for a .EU Domain Name, since the Authorization mail is sent directly from the Registry to the Registrant Contact’s Email Address.

Upon successfully placing a Transfer Request [that is after you have paid for the same], your domain name’s Transfer action will initiate. You can easily track the status of your domain name’s transfer by following these steps:
1. Login to your Control Panel and search for the domain name for which you have placed the Transfer request.
2. Click on the domain name.
3. Note the Action Requested and the Status of the Action. There can be only 3 Statuses of a domain name that has not yet been transferred to Gossimer -
Trying to fetch Admin Contact Email Address:
Our system automatically fetches the Admin Contact e-mail address by contacting the Whois Server of the Current Registrar. However, sometimes the Current Registrar’s Whois Server does not respond to our request.
Ideally our system attempts to fetch these details every hour. In case, the Current Registrar’s Whois Server does not respond to our system, we have to manually fetch these details. If the status of your Transfer Order continues to display this status for over a few hours, please contact our Support Team at support@gossimer.com.
Transfer waiting for Admin Contact Approval:
Upon initiating a Transfer, our system sends an e-mail to the Admin Contact of the domain name as appearing in the Whois Server of the Current Registrar. You can verify the e-mail address we fetched from their Whois Server, at the time you initiated the transfer within the Order Details page itself.
In case the Admin Contact does not receive the Transfer Request in an hour after placing a transfer, you may resend the Transfer Request by clicking on the Resend Authorization Request button.
IMPORTANT
There might be instances where the Admin Contact Email Address was changed after the transfer request was placed. In such a case, clicking on Resend Authorization Request would NOT send the mail to the new Email address. To send the Email to the new address, the current transfer needs to be failed and a fresh transfer order needs to be placed.
Sometimes, it may be possible that the Admin Contact has still not received an e-mail sent by our system, due to any of several problems including network blockages, spam filters, etc.. To circumvent such a situation, you may click on the Transfer Fax Form button and follow the instruction therein, to send us your consent to Transfer your domain name to Gossimer.
We await for 5 days for the Administrative Contact to approve the Transfer. If the Administrative Contact remains silent (neither approves or disapproves the transfer), we assume that the Administrative Contact does not wish to transfer his domain name and we delete this Order in our system.
Transfer waiting for Losing Registrar Approval:
You may see this status when the Domain Name Holder has Approved the Transfer Request sent by Gossimer and now the transfer is awaiting the Current Registrar to approve the Transfer. Ideally, your domain name should transfer in 5 days since the time this status is displayed.

([n x Monthly cost of the new package] + Pro-rated cost for the current month + One time setup cost) – Credits remaining from the existing package
where, n = duration of the new package in months
Then proceed to pay for the Invoice. The modification would be effected immediately.
Deleting your package
If for some reason, you do not wish to continue with the Website Builder Service provided by Gossimer, then you can Delete this package. Your Sub-Resellers and Customers can request a Refund from their Control Panel from within their billing section. For instance if one of your customers has a current available balance of USD 100, he can choose to request a refund of upto USD 100 from it. This will appropriately reduce his available balance and send you a notification to process that Refund.
When any of your Customer/Sub-Reseller requests for a Refund, the system automatically creates and Balances a Debit Note to signify the same. This Debit Note is calculated based on the Available Receipts/Credit Notes with that Customer. This Debit Note is sent to you via email and allows you to determine the amount of Refund you need to give to your Customer. Let us understand how this Debit Note is calculated
Lets say a Sub-Reseller of yours has the following Receipts (your Selling Currency is USD and Accounting Currency is INR)
Receipt ID: 1
Receipt Amount: USD 50 (INR 2450)
Pending Amount: USD 0 (INR 0)
Conversion Rate: 49
Receipt ID: 2
Receipt Amount: USD 75 (INR 3675)
Pending Amount: USD 50 (INR 2450)
Conversion Rate: 49
Receipt ID: 3
Receipt Amount: USD 75 (INR 3600)
Pending Amount: USD 75 (INR 3600)
Conversion Rate: 48
Receipt ID: 4
Receipt Amount: USD 100 (INR 5000)
Pending Amount: USD 100 (INR 5000)
Conversion Rate: 50
As you can see from the above list, the current balance of this Sub-Reseller is USD 225. This is spread across Receipts 2,3 and 4. Now let us suppose this Reseller requests for a refund of USD 200. The system will process this request as follows
1. Fetch all Receipts of the Sub-Reseller required to refund USD 200 (in this case Receipts 2,3 and 4)
2. Use the Pending Balance of these Receipts to refund USD 200 (in this case USD 50 from Receipt 2, USD 75 from Receipt 3, and USD 75 from Receipt ID 4)
3. Calculate the Accounting Currency Amount for the Debit Note by checking the utilisation of each Receipt (INR 2450 from Receipt 2, INR 3600 from Receipt 3, and INR 3750 from Receipt 4 => INR 9800)
4. Generate a Debit Note of the amount of refund – USD 200 (INR 9800)
5. Balance the Debit Note against the Receipts to give the following final status of the transactions
Receipt ID: 1
Receipt Amount: USD 50 (INR 2450)
Pending Amount: USD 0 (INR 0)
Conversion Rate: 49
Receipt ID: 2
Receipt Amount: USD 75 (INR 3675)
Pending Amount: USD 0 (INR 0)
Conversion Rate: 49
Receipt ID: 3
Receipt Amount: USD 75 (INR 3600)
Pending Amount: USD 0 (INR 0)
Conversion Rate: 48
Receipt ID: 4
Receipt Amount: USD 100 (INR 5000)
Pending Amount: USD 25 (INR 1250)
Conversion Rate: 50
Debit Note ID: 1
Debit Amount: USD 200 (INR 9800)
Pending Amount: USD 0 (INR 0)
6. The system sends an email to your billing Department to process the above refund
7. The System also deducts USD 200 (refund amount) from the Total Receipts figure for this Sub-Reseller. Click here to understand the concept of Total Receipts for your Sub-Resellers/Customers >>
Note: In the above example we have taken a set of Receipts. The process would be the same if the Sub-Reseller had a combination of Credit Notes or Receipts. In the end both Receipts and Credit Notes are exactly similar.
The above steps are taken by the system. Your Billing department now needs to process the refund and send it back to the Sub-Reseller. Your billing department must take the following aspects into account
-
The way the system creates the Debit Note ensures that you never lose money in a refund transaction. The Accounting currency amount (INR 9800 in the above case) is calculated exactly based on the Accounting currency amount that was received at the time of the Receipt. Therefore your billing department must refund the exact Accounting Amount to the Sub-Reseller
-
You may choose to further deduct charges for processing this refund before sending the same

In order to point additional domain names to your website, follow the process mentioned below:
1. Login to your Control Panel, search for the domain name for which you have purchased the Web Hosting package and go to the Order Details view. Click here to read how >>
2. Click the Modify Domain Aliases button on the lower toolbar.
3. Here, enter up to 5 additional domain names as aliases for your website, and click Modify Domain Aliases.
For each Domain Alias that you submit, you would need to point this alias domain name to your primary domain name (for which you have bought Web Hosting).
This can be accomplished by either one of these ways:
Option 1
On the existing Name Servers of the Domain Alias, create 2 Address Records (A Records) pointing to your primary domain name. The Address Records can be viewed by clicking the View Name Server Details button within the Order Details view page of the Web Hosting Order. Notice the first 2 Address Records and request your current DNS Service Provider to replicate them for your alias domain name.
Option 2
If your current DNS Service Provider does not allow you to create these records, then you can follow the process listed below -
- Purchase Managed DNS Service from Gossimer for the alias domain name.
- Search for the domain name for which you have purchased the Web Hosting package and go to the Order Details view. Click here to read how >>
- Click the View Name Server Details button.
- Modify the Name Servers of the alias domain name, as per the details provided here. Click here to find out how you can modify the Name Servers, if you have registered your Domain Name with Gossimer >>
- Replicate for your alias domain name, the first 2 Address Records listed here. Click here to read how >>
Now, the website that you have created can be seen on all the domain names that you have set as aliases.

You may tweak the permissions of various files/folders in your website, from the File Manager interface. This can be achieved by following the process described below:
1. Select one or more files/directories and click on the Chmod button.
2. You have two options to set the permissions of a file/folder. Click here to understand various File Permissions and different Groups of users >>

i. Select the Read, Write, Execute permissions for the groups – Owner, Group, Everyone.
ii. If you have selected multiple files/folders, then you need to click on the Set all permissions button to set these permissions for all.
b. Individually select the permissions of each file/folder
You can set permissions to files/directories individually by selecting the appropriate check boxes provided for each file/directory. Alternatively, if you know the numeric value of the file permissions, you may enter the same in the textbox adjacent to Chmod value.
Note: If you are setting the permission for a directory, you can choose to set the same permission to all the files/subdirectories within that directory by selecting the check box adjacent to Chmod also the files within this directory or/and Chmod also the subdirectories within this directory.
3. Click
to submit the permissions.
IMPORTANT
Be extremely careful when modifying the file/directory permissions, as it may lead to website visitors either not being able to view a particular file or worse have read/write/execute access to a file that you may not have wished to grant.
If you feel you have erred, you may either seek expert advise or simply delete and re-upload the original file/folder (after taking a backup of the current file/folder).

There are various cases where a Domain Name MAY NOT be Transferable to another Registrar. This could happen in the following circumstances:
(a) Domain Name is less than 60 days Old – If the Domain Name you are trying to Transfer is less than 60 days old, the request will get rejected by the Registry itself. Domain Names less than 60 days old are not allowed to be Transferred to any other Registrar as per ICANN Guidelines.
(b) Domain Name has been Transferred less than 60 days ago - A Domain Name cannot be Transferred to another Registrar within 60 days of a previous Transfer. For example, a Domain Name cannot be Transferred from Registrar B to Registrar C, if it has been Transferred to Registrar B from Registrar A within the last 60 days. An exception to this rule is the Transfer back to the previous Registrar in cases where both Registrars so agree and/or where a decision in the dispute resolution process so directs.
(c) You have Locked your Domain Name – If you have Locked your Domain Name from the Control Panel provided by the current Registrar, then a Transfer Request for that Domain Name will not be allowed. You will first have to unlock the Domain Name from the Control Panel and then proceed with a Transfer Request.
(d) Your Registrar has applied a Lock or Hold on your Domain Name – If the current Registrar has applied a Lock or Hold on the Domain Name due to some pending issue, you would be advised to get in touch with their (current Registrar’s) Support Team to resolve this issue, before applying for a Transfer.
(e) If the Domain Name is in the Redemption Grace Period or in the Pending Delete status, the Domain Name can not be Transferred. Click here to know more about Redemption Grace Period and how you can restore your Domain Name (except .UK, .WS and .NAME) from this status >>
IMPORTANT
- If you are trying to Transfer a .EU Domain Name, only condition (e) will be applicable. This is because the .EU Registry does not support any Lock/Suspension feature. There is also no 60 day Registration/Transfer Lock.
- A .UK Domain Name can be Renewed upto 97 days after its Expiry, post which the Domain Name would be automatically Deleted by the .UK Registry. There is no restriction on Transferring a .UK Domain Name during this period. However, you need to ensure that there is sufficient time prior to Deletion, so that the Domain Name can be Renewed with the new Registrar once the Transfer process gets completed successfully. This is because Transfer of a .UK Domain Name does not include one year Renewal. Apart from this, none of conditions listed above apply to the Transfer of a . UK Domain Name. This is because the .UK Registry does not support any Lock/Suspension/60 day Registration or Transfer Lock and there is no concept of a Redemption Grace Period in case of a .UK Domain Name.
- The .WS Registry does not support Transfer of Domain Names between Registrars. Hence, a .WS Domain Name cannot be Transferred under any circumstance.

Depending upon the Web Server software type you selected at the time of Enrolling for a Digital Certificate, thawte determines if your Digital Certificate is re-signable or non-re-signable on their system. This means that certain platforms will require a new CSR upon Renewal while others enable the existing CSR to be re-signed, in which case the new certificate, once issued, will only work on the private key file that was used to create the CSR originally submitted to thawte. Click here to find a list of Web Server Software platforms which support a re-signable CSR on Renewal >>
thawte Digital Certificates have a lifespan of 1 or 2 years, depending upon the validity period you chose at the time of purchase. You can Renew your Digital Certificate within 90 days prior to its Expiry and within 30 days post Expiry. However, thawte will issue the Digital Certificate only 32 days before your current Certificate expires. This allows you to request your Renewal Certificate timorously and prevents any warnings for your website users which would have been displayed if your existing Certificate would have Expired.
IMPORTANT
- Upon Expiry, the Digital Certificate will be Suspended by Gossimer System. Once Expired, the Digital Certificate will become invalid and a warning message about the Expired Digital Certificate will be displayed to your website visitors. If the Digital Certificate is not Renewed within 30 days post Expiry, it will be Deleted by Gossimer System.
- Once a Digital Certificate is Renewed, Additional License(s) associated with such a Certificate, if any, will no longer be valid. You need to purchase fresh Additional License(s) for the Renewed Digital Certificate. Click here to read about Additional Licenses in detail >>
- If Privacy Protection is enabled for the Domain Name, it needs to be disabled before Renewing the Digital Certificate. Privacy Protection may be enabled again once the Certificate has been Renewed. Click here to read how to enable/disable Privacy Protection >>
Follow the below mentioned process to Renew your Digital Certificate:
- Login into your Control Panel, search for the Digital Certificate and click the domain name to go to the Order Details view. Click here to find instructions to accomplish this >>
- Click the Renew Service button.
- Select whether you wish to renew your Digital Certificate for 1 or 2 years in the dropdown. If your Digital Certificate is re-signable, then you will not be prompted to submit a new CSR. However, if thawte determines that your Web Server software would not support re-signed certificates, you would be prompted to mention a new CSR.
IMPORTANT
During the Digital Certificate Enrollment process for a SSL123 Certificate, you need to choose either the Corporate Contact or the Technical Contact as the Authorizing Contact for your Digital Certificate.
Click here for more details >>
During the Enrollment process for a SSL123 Certificate, if you had chosen the Corporate Contact as the Authorizing Contact and had matched a pre-determined email address (email alias) with the domain name for which you were requesting the Certificate, then you will be required to provide the Corporate Contact Email Address while Renewing the Certificate.
- Click the Confirm Renew button to proceed to pay for your Invoice.
Once you have Renewed your Digital Certificate successfully, you would be issued your new certificate. You can check the status of your Digital Certificate by clicking the Check Certificate Status button in the Order Details view of the Digital Certificate Order. Once the certificate is issued, you can retrieve the same from the above interface itself and install this renewed certificate on your web server.

Once a domain name is deleted, the domain name (except a .UK, .WS and .NAME domain name) would slip into the Redemption Period ONLY under the following circumstances:
- manual deletion of domain name by contacting Gossimer Technical Support
- System deletion of domain name post Expiry of the Renewal Grace Period and the domain name does not have any backorder against it.
In all other cases, a deleted domain name cannot be Renewed/Restored/Redeemed. Click here to find information about our Renewal Grace Period and Domain Name Deletion Policy >>
Redeeming a domain name is costly, time consuming and generally a manual process. The Redemption Period is of 30* days (for most domain name extensions) after the domain name is deleted and during this period, only the current Registrar of the domain name can Redeem the domain name.
If the domain name is not Redeemed during this period, then it would move to the Pending Delete period for 5 days. In this status, the domain name can not be Redeemed and after this period, the domain name would be available for fresh Registration.
IMPORTANT
* The Redemption Grace Period is different for some domain name extensions as stated below:
Procedure for Restoring any Domain Name in Redemption Grace Period (Pending Delete Restorable Status)
1. Login to your Control Panel, search for the domain name you wish to Redeem and proceed to the Order Details view. Click here to know how to do so >>
2. For a domain name under the Redemption Period, you will find a Restore button. You can then move ahead with Redeeming the domain name, by paying for the Invoice so generated. Click here for more details on payment >>
Kindly note that Redemption of a domain name is a lengthy process and hence it would take Gossimer upto 5 working days to Redeem a domain name.
IMPORTANT
- A Restoration action, once completed, cannot be reversed. The only option would be deleting the domain name, in case the same is no longer required. Click here to know how a domain name can be deleted >>
- Redemption of a domain name** (only after deletion by Gossimer System post Expiry of the Renewal Grace Period) includes 1 year Renewal.
- ** Redemption of a .EU domain name will always include one year Renewal. However, Renewal will extend the term from the date on which the domain name is Redeemed and not from the Expiry date existing when the domain name was deleted.

A Domain (Transfer) Secret or Authorization Code is a code assigned by the Registrar at the time the domain name was registered. This Auth Code acts like a password for a domain name. Domain (Transfer) Secret is an extra security measure, ensuring that only the owner of the domain can transfer their domain name.
To transfer any domain name of any of the following extensions, you would require to first obtain the Domain (Transfer) Secret or Auth. Code from your current Registrar:
- .com
- .net
- .org
- .info
- .biz
- .us
- .in (along with any third level .in domain like .co.in)
- .name
- .bz
- .mn
- .mobi
- .cc (not compulsory)
- .tv (not compulsory)
- .coop
Ideally, your domain name’s Domain (Transfer) Secret or Auth. Code should be available within the Domain Name Management Interface provided by your Registrar. In the event that you are not able to locate your Domain (Transfer) Secret or Auth. Code, you need to contact the Support Team of your current Registrar, to obtain the same.

Before proceeding with the Transfer of your .UK Domain Name, you are advised to first confirm if your Domain Name can be Transferred. Click here to read more >>
IMPORTANT
- Inter-Registrar Transfer of a .UK Domain Name does not include one year Renewal.
- Transfer of a .UK Domain Name from another Registrar to Gossimer is a non-billable action.
The process of Transferring a .UK Domain Name from another Registrar is slightly different compared to the process for Domain Names under other extensions. In case of a .UK Domain Name, the inbound Transfer needs to be initiated at the Current Registrar’s end.
Once you have determined whether your .UK Domain Name can be Transferred, you need to follow the process mentioned below:
- Initiate the Transfer at the Current Registrar with whom you are managing your .UK Domain Name.
You need to provide a Tag in order to initiate the Transfer. Contact our Technical Support Team at support@gossimer.com to know the Tag.
- A notification will be sent to the Registrant Email Address once Gossimer receives a notification about the Transfer from the .UK Registry.
- This email will contain a Security Key associated with the Domain Name that you have Transferred.
- Login to your Control Panel – Customers – http://manage.gossimer.biz/customer
Resellers – http://manage.gossimer.biz/reseller
- In the Control Panel, Customers – go to Domains -> Domain Registration -> Transfer
Resellers – go to Products -> Domain Registration -> Transfer<#end reseller#>
Now, enter your .UK Domain Name. You also need to provide the Security Key, which was sent to the Registrant Email Address.
IMPORTANT
Here, you will be initiating the final step related to the Transfer of your .UK Domain Name to Gossimer and not a fresh Transfer.
On the next page, you need to provide the Customer Username (Email Address) under whom the Domain Name needs to be placed.
- Submit the details.
You will receive a notification via email from Gossimer, once the Domain Name has been activated under your Control Panel.
