02 Sep 10 Locking / Unlocking your Domain Name

Domain Name Locking is a crucial security feature as it prevents domain names frem being transferred away to other Registrars, without it being explicitly removed. Placing a Lock has the following effects on your domain name:

The Contact Details and Name Servers of such a Domain Name can not be modified in this state.
A Transfer [Away] Request for this domain name to another Registrar will fail at the Registry itself and will not be allowed.
An internal Move of this domain name (to another Customer Account) would not be possible in this state.

IMPORTANT

.EU/.UK domain names do not support locking. Hence you can not lock a .EU/.UK domain name.

Domain Names can be Locked/Unlocked from your Control Panel by following the process mentioned below -

Login to your Control Panel and search for the domain name that you wish to Lock/Unlock. Click here to read how >>
Click on the Domain name in the search results to get to the Order details view.
Click on the Lock/Unlock Button
On the following page -

If you wish to Lock the Service, you would have to select the Check Box for Locking and enter the reason for Locking and click on the Update button.

For Unlocking, unselect the Check Box and click on the Update button.

28 Aug 10 Suspend/Unsuspend a Domain Name

Order Suspension is a useful feature available to Resellers of Gossimer. In this status, the Order remains in the database but is inactive and the functionality associated with it can not be used. Placing a Domain Name Registration Order under Suspension has the following effects -

Any website/email service associated with the domain name would stop functioning.
The Contact Details and Name Servers of such a domain name can not be modified in this state.
A Transfer [Away] Request for this domain name to another Registrar will fail at the Registry itself and will not be allowed.
Domain name Renewal/Deletion would not be possible
An internal Move of this domain name (to another Customer Account) would not be possible in this state.

IMPORTANT

.EU/.UK domain names do not support Suspension. Hence, this feature will not be be available for a .EU/.UK Domain Name.

Follow the steps below to Suspend / Unsuspend a Domain Name -

1. Login to your Control Panel and search for the domain name. Click here to find instructions on how to do so >>

2. Click on the Domain name in the search results to get to the Order details view.

3. On this page, you would click the Suspend/Unsuspend button

If you wish to Suspend the Service, you would have to select the Check Box for Suspension and enter a relevant reason for Suspension and click on Update. The reason for Suspension would be visible to your Sub-Resellers/Customers when they click on Suspend/Unsuspend button from the Order Details view of the domain name from within their Control Panel.
For Unsuspending, unselect the Check Box and click on Update.

19 Aug 10 What are Locked Funds?

The concept of Locked funds is really simple. Every Order that is processed deducts funds from your Account. However, Bulk Orders (like Bulk Transfer of Domain Names from another Registrar to Gossimer ) typically take some time to get processed. The process of executing such Orders consists of several steps. There is a chance that certain steps may fail and the Orders do not get processed. Therefore, we lock the requisite funds in your account when the Order is being processed.

Basically this means that when you pay us for a Bulk Order, we do not utilise those funds immediately. We lock the funds and begin processing the Order, in order to prevent the possibility of your account not having funds, at that time when the Order is processed successfully. If the processing fails then we release the lock and the funds are again available in your Account for you to use for any other service.

There might also be cases where a Bulk Order would not be entirely successful. For such an eventuality, we would lock funds required for a successful completion of the Request, in the beginning. When the Order is completed, we would deduct only the amount for which the associated Order was successful, and the remainder of the Locked funds would be released and available once again in your Debit Account.

For instance, say you placed a Bulk Registration Order for 10 Domain Names. The requisite funds for this Order would be Locked, and the Order would be executed. Now, if only 6 of these Domain Names were registered, and 4 were unavailable for registration, then the charges for Registration of 6 Domain Names would only be deducted from your Account, and the Lock on the rest of the funds would be released.

You can check out the complete list of Locked funds for all your Orders which are currently in processing by clicking on My Billing -> List Locked Funds. This list shows you the Orders for which funds have been locked from your account, and the quantum of funds locked for that Order.

13 Aug 10 Transferring your .UK Domain Name

Before proceeding with the Transfer of your .UK Domain Name, you are advised to first confirm if your Domain Name can be Transferred. Click here to read more >>

IMPORTANT

Inter-Registrar Transfer of a .UK Domain Name does not include one year Renewal.

Transfer of a .UK Domain Name from another Registrar to Gossimer is a non-billable action.

The process of Transferring a .UK Domain Name from another Registrar is slightly different compared to the process for Domain Names under other extensions. In case of a .UK Domain Name, the inbound Transfer needs to be initiated at the Current Registrar’s end.

Once you have determined whether your .UK Domain Name can be Transferred, you need to follow the process mentioned below:

Initiate the Transfer at the Current Registrar with whom you are managing your .UK Domain Name.
You need to provide a Tag in order to initiate the Transfer. Contact our Technical Support Team at support@gossimer.com to know the Tag.
A notification will be sent to the Registrant Email Address once Gossimer receives a notification about the Transfer from the .UK Registry.
This email will contain a Security Key associated with the Domain Name that you have Transferred.
IMPORTANT
- The Security Key needs to be kept confidential.
- In case the Registrant has not received any notification containing the Security Key, you can contact support@gossimer.com and request for the Security Key to be re-sent.
- In case the Registrant has received multiple notifications related to the Transfer, the Security Key listed in the latest email needs to be used.
- Transfer Request for .UK Domain Names cannot be placed from the Storefront/within the Control Panel. Hence, it is advised that you re-direct all purchase related links from within your, your company user’s and your Customer’s Control Panel to your SuperSite URL or your Custom URL (if you have integrated with our platform using our API).

Login to your Control Panel – Customers – http://manage.gossimer.biz/customer

In the Control Panel, Customers – go to Domains -> Domain Registration -> Transfer
Resellers – go to Products -> Domain Registration -> Transfer<#end reseller#>

Now, enter your .UK Domain Name. You also need to provide the Security Key, which was sent to the Registrant Email Address.

IMPORTANT

Here, you will be initiating the final step related to the Transfer of your .UK Domain Name to Gossimer and not a fresh Transfer.

On the next page, you need to provide the Customer Username (Email Address) under whom the Domain Name needs to be placed.
Submit the details.

You will receive a notification via email from Gossimer, once the Domain Name has been activated under your Control Panel.

09 Aug 10 Transferring your Domain Name (except .EU, .UK and .WS) to Another Registrar

There may be cases where you wish to Transfer your Domain Name away from Gossimer, to another Registrar. The following process will assist you in ensuring a smooth Transfer of your Domain Name to the Registrar of your choice.

Step 1: Check if your Domain Name can be Transferred

Before proceeding with the Transfer, you are advised to first check if your Domain Name can be Transferred. Click here to read more >>

IMPORTANT

The .WS Registry does not support Transfer of Domain Names between Registrars. Hence, a .WS Domain Name cannot be Transferred under any circumstance.

Step 2: Apply for the Transfer at the New Registrar

Once you have determined whether a Domain Name can be Transferred, you will need to apply for the Transfer at the Registrar of your choice. Please refer to the New Registrar’s Transfer Process for the same. You would require the Domain (Transfer) Secret/Authorization Code to complete the Transfer process, except in case of a .EU, .UK, .CC and .TV Domain Name. Once you have confirmed the Transfer with the New Registrar, we would receive an intimation about this Transfer. We would then be sending an email to the Registrant and Administrative Contacts of the Domain Name, informing them that a request for Transfer of this Domain Name has been placed with the New Registrar and if they do not wish to Transfer their Domain Name to this New Registrar, they should click on the Cancel Transfer Link within 5 days.

If the Registrant or Administrative Contact does not click on the Cancel Transfer Link, the Domain Name will get Transferred to the New Registrar, in 5 days, from you having approved the Transfer at the New Registrar.
