30 Aug 10 ERROR: Trying to fetch Admin Contact E-mail Address

You may get this error when you execute a Transfer for a Domain Name (except a .EU Domain Name) from another Registrar to Gossimer.

In order to ensure that, an Authorised person is placing this Transfer Request, we send an email to the Administrative Contact of the Domain Name for authorising the transfer. We need to fetch the e-mail address of the Administrative Contact from the Current Whois Record from the Losing Registrar.

If for some reason we are unable to contact the Whois Server of the Current Registrar you will get this message. There are two things you can do at this stage -

1. You would have received an e-mail with instructions on sending a Fax authorisation for these transfers. You can use that fax authorisation to action the transfers.

2. You can simply wait for upto 48 hours. We would attempt to contact your Registrars Whois server for the Administrative contact details every hour for 24 hours, and even try the same manually. In almost all cases we will be able to send the Administrative Contact E-mail within 48 hours.

IMPORTANT

This process would not be applicable for a .EU Domain Name, since the Authorization mail is sent directly from the Registry to the Registrant Contact’s Email Address.

30 Aug 10 Regulations to be followed while updating contact details of specific domain names

There are certain regulations to be followed while updating contact information for certain domain names registered with Gossimer

.US domain names

The Registrant contact of every .US domain name needs to bear valid Nexus Information. The Nexus Information consists of

  • The Application Purpose: Whether the domain name being registered is for Business use (Profit/Non-profit), personal use, etc.

  • The Nexus Category: Whether the person registering the domain name is a resident/citizen of the United States of America, or the Domain name is registered for an organization based in the United States, or having an office or facility therein.

If you were to modify the Name/Company name for an existing contact of a .US domain name, the system would prompt you to specify the Nexus information for this contact.

.NAME domain names

When you register a .NAME domain name or have a .NAME domain name transferred to your account with Gossimer , you have to wait for 5 days before you can update the Registrant contact details.

28 Aug 10 Bulk Registration

You can order multiple Domain Names (except .EU and .UK Domain Names) at a time, through the Bulk Registration interface in your Control Panel.

For Customers -

  1. Login to your Customer Control Panel from – http://manage.gossimer.biz/customer

  2. Go to Domains -> Domain Registration -> Bulk Actions -> Bulk Registration

  3. Enter values in their respective fields as explained below and proceed.

    • Domain Information: Enter one or more domain names in the format requested. This process by-passes the Domain Check Availability process and the system will attempt to register these names for you, proximately.

    • Registration Term: Select the number of years you want to register this/these domain name(s) for.

    • Contact Information: Select the appropriate Registrant, Administrative, Technical and Billing Contacts from the drop-down lists, for whom the domain names will be registered.

    • Name Server Information: Mention valid Name Servers for these domain names. Name Servers are COMPULSORY for all Top Level Domains EXCEPT .COM/.NET domains.

You may choose to enable Privacy Protection for all the domain names. Click here to read what is Privacy Protection >>

It is compulsory for you to agree to the associated Product Agreement(s) by selecting the Check Box.

IMPORTANT

  1. In case you are registering .US domain names, then for every unique Contact that you have selected as the Registrant, Administrative, Technical and Billing Contact, you need to mention their Nexus Category and Application Purpose. This can be accomplished by following the underlying process:

    a. Login to your Control Panel, from http://manage.gossimer.biz/customer
    b. Search for the contact in question, from Domains -> Domain Registration -> Contact Management -> Search.
    c. When you click on the contact, you would see a button to Modify Nexus Information.
    d. Now, select the Application Purpose and Nexus Category for the contact, as appropriate.

  2. Once you have placed the Bulk Registration order, the requisite Amount to process the Order will be Locked until the action is completed. You can check funds locked for various actions from My Billing -> List Locked Funds. However, if your debit account does not have sufficient funds to pay for some of the orders, the system would eliminate the orders belonging to the Top Level Domains having the least number of domain names within the bulk registration order. Ensure that you have sufficient funds in your Debit Account before placing a Bulk Registration order from My Billing -> Summary. You can add more funds from My Billing -> Add Funds before placing a Bulk Registration order. For example, if you place a bulk registration for 10 domain names out of which say 5 are .com domain names, 3 are .biz domain names and 2 are .info domain names and you have funds only to register 6, then the system would register the domain names from larger batches – 5 .com domain names and 1 of the .biz names and fail the rest.

  3. When the Order is executed successfully, you will receive a confirmation for the same via an e-mail from Gossimer and the locked funds will be deducted accordingly from your Debit Account. Alternatively, if the Order fails, you will receive a notification from Gossimer and the locked funds would be released back into your Debit Account.

  4. At any point of time, you can add upto two Bulk orders. This implies that you would not be able to add another Bulk Registration / Renewal / Transfer / Modification request, if two Bulk Actions are already running . You will be able to add another Bulk request once the earlier request has been processed completely. Click here to know how you can list all Bulk Actions that are currently running in your account >>

For Resellers -

  1. Login to your Reseller Control Panel from – http://manage.gossimer.biz/reseller

  2. Go to Products -> Domain Registration -> Bulk Actions -> Bulk Registration

  3. Enter the Customer Email Address for which you wish to Register these Domains.

You may choose to enable Privacy Protection for all the domain names. Click here to read what is Privacy Protection >>

It is compulsory for you to agree to the associated Product Agreement(s) by selecting the Check Box.

  5. Decide how you wish to Pay for the Registration of the Orders by selecting one of the Payment Options mentioned below and then click on the Continue button to execute the Registration

    • Option 1 – Register the Orders and the Invoices will be kept Pending for the Customer. This way, he can pay for the Invoices later.

    • Option 2 – Register the domain names using the Current Debit Account Balance of the Customer. This option would immediately debit your Customer’s Debit Account for the Cost of the Registrations. If there are insufficient funds in the Customer’s Debit Account balance, then the system would register as many Orders as possible.

    • Option 3 – Register the Orders without raising any Invoices for the Customer.

IMPORTANT

  1. In case you are registering .US domain names, then for every unique Contact that you have selected as the Registrant, Administrative, Technical and Billing Contact, you need to mention their Nexus Category and Application Purpose. This can be accomplished by following the underlying process:

28 Aug 10 Understanding the Status of a .EU Domain Name Transfer/Trade

Upon successfully placing a .EU Transfer/Trade Request [that is after you have paid for the same], your domain name’s Transfer/Trade action will initiated. You can easily track the status of your domain name’s Transfer/Trade by following these steps:

1. Login to your Control Panel and search for the domain name for which you have placed the Transfer/Trade request. Click here to read how >>

2. Click on the domain name.

3. Note the Action Requested and the Status of the Action. The various Statuses of a domain name that has not yet been Transferred/Traded are described below -

Initiating Trade Request: Once the Transfer/Trade order has been executed, the status of the Transfer/Trade order is displayed as Initiating Trade Request. This is the stage where the Transfer/Trade request has not yet been forwarded to the Registry by the System.

Trade waiting for Confirmation: Once the System forwards the Transfer/Trade request to the Registry, the status of the Transfer/Trade order is displayed as Trade waiting for Confirmation. In case of a Transfer, the Registry will send an authorization request to the Registrant of the domain name while in case of a Trade, the authorization request is sent to the current as well as the new Registrant. All the concerned parties have to approve the action within 7 days. If the Transfer/Trade is not authorized within 7 days, the authorization need to be provided through a fax to the Registry. The status of the Transfer/Trade will continue to be displayed as Trade waiting for Confirmation throughout this period.

Trade Request Approved: Once the Registrant (in case of a Transfer)/current as well as new Registrant (in case of a Trade) provide the the authorization, the status of the Transfer/Trade will be shown as Trade Request Approved.

Order Locked In Processing: If the domain name is being Transferred from another Registrar, the System will create .EU Contacts having the same information as existed at the old Registrar and associate these Contacts with the Transferred domain name. The System will display the status Order Locked in Processing while all such internal processes are being carried out.

24 Aug 10 How can people Contact me if I enable Privacy Protection for my domain name?

Once you enable Privacy Protection for your domain name, the Contact Details for your domain name in any Whois Lookup query would display generic details. If someone attempts to contact you at these details, this is how they will be greeted:

  • Letters, Couriers delivered at the Postal Address would not be accepted. This implies, that you will not be contactable at the address displayed in your domain name Whois.

  • Telephone Callers would be advised to email you at the email address displayed in the whois of your domain name.

  • Email sent to the email address listed in the Whois, will get a response specifying an unbranded URL, which needs to be visited by this person. Upon visiting the site, they would be able to mention their query in a secure form, while specifying the type of Contact (Registrant, Administrative, Technical, Billing) they wish to email. The contents of the submitted form will then be emailed to the selected Contact’s (Registrant, Administrative, Technical or Billing) address, as specified in your Control Panel.

Therefore, you are assured of still being contactable, even though your Contact Details are not visible in the Whois of your domain name.

22 Aug 10 Transferring your .EU Domain Name

Before proceeding with the Transfer you are advised to first go check if your Domain Name can be Transferred. Click here to check if your domain name can be transferred >>

IMPORTANT

In case of a .EU Domain Name Transfer, the Expiry date is updated to 1 year from the date of Transfer and not to 1 year from the date the domain name was set to expire prior to Transfer.

For example, if a Domain Name has the Expiry date as 24 Oct, 2007 and it gets Transferred to another Registrar on 2 Sep, 2007. The new Expiry date will be 2 Sep, 2008 and not 24 Oct, 2008.

If you wish to Transfer a .EU Domain Name to Gossimer, then you need to follow the steps mentioned below:

Transfer Process for Customers

Here, it is obvious that all the necessary DNS records are already created on the new Name Servers for the website/emails to be functional.

5. You need to mention any existing Child Name Servers for your .EU domain name alongwith their respective IP Addresses. This is necessary to avoid any downtime for the website/emails associated with any domain name using these Child Name Servers as their Name Servers. If you wish to Register any new Child Name Servers, you may also mention the same alongwith the respective IP Addresses. 17 Aug 10 Additional Contact related requirements for .ASIA domain names

Apart from the Registrant, Administrative, Technical and Billing Contacts, two additional Contacts as explained below need to be associated with a .ASIA domain name:

Operations and Notifications (OPN) Contact

An Operations and Notifications Contact (OPN Contact) is submitted to designate the point of contact to whom documentary evidence requests, auction invitations, and reminders are to be sent.

Updates to the OPN Contact will not be permitted during Sunrise period. The .ASIA Registry does not guarantee that any changes to OPN Contact will be effected in the notification system immediately. If you update the OPN Contact, you must continue to accept and expect notifications being sent to the previous OPN Contact for a reasonable period of time after the submission of the changes.

The OPN Contact must be specified for all Sunrise applications. This Contact is optional for Landrush and Live Registrations.

Charter Eligibility Declaration (CED) Contact

Every domain registration application must include at least one Domain Contact that is a legal entity in the DotAsia Community. The DotAsia Community is defined based on the geographical boundaries described by the ICANN Asia / Australia / Pacific region (http://www.icann.org/montreal/geo-regions-topic.htm).

The Registrant Contact shall warrant and represent that Domain Contact to make the Charter Eligibility Declaration (CED), who shall thence be referred to as “CED Contact”. The CED Contact, along with the Registrant Contact, is jointly responsible and liable for the domain name. In the event of a domain name dispute, both the CED Contact and the Registrant Contact can be named as the responding party to any allegations arisen.

For those entities that do not have a separate legal personality, such as a partnership in some economies, a natural person (e.g. a partner) may be used as one of the Domain Contacts and named as the CED Contact.

The designated CED Contact must provide additional information to make the declaration to the effect that it is a legal entity within the DotAsia Community. The required information includes:

  1. Location or domicile of the Entity (based on the corresponding ISO3166 code)

  2. Type of Entity -

    1. Corporations or Companies
    2. Cooperatives
    3. Partnerships or Collectives
    4. Government Bodies, States, Sovereigns or Municipalities
    5. Political Parties or Trade Unions
    6. Trusts, Estates, Associations or Societies
    7. Institutions
    8. Natural Persons
    9. Other

  3. Form of Identification -

    1. Certificate of Incorporation or equivalent business registration certificate issued by the relevant government registry as confirmation of the due incorporation and valid existence of the company
    2. Act, decree or legislation chartering the formation of an entity
    3. Societies Registry or equivalent registry for non-corporate entities
    4. Political Parties Registry
    5. Passport or Citizenship ID
    6. Other

  4. Identification Number / Code of Reference (e.g. Passport number, Business Certificate number, Act or Legislation number/code, etc.)

  5. Other Remarks

If 2(i) and/or 3(f) is declared, the appropriate information for the Type of Legal Entity and Form of Identification to support the claim must be entered into 5.

Any Registrant, Admin, Tech, or Billing Contact may be extended into a CED Contact, however at least one of the four aforementioned contacts must contain CED information.

After the completion of the Sunrise process, the CED Contact may amend its Charter Eligibility Declaration at anytime. An Operating Contact (i.e. the Registrant Contact) may replace the CED Contact on file provided that the new CED Contact fulfils the Charter Eligibility Requirement.

Changes to CED Contact information (in fact all information relating to a domain) and replacement of CED Contacts are, however, not permitted when proceedings have been commenced under the Charter Eligibility Dispute Resolution Policy (CEDRP).

The Charter Eligibility Declaration Policy can be viewed at http://www.registry.asia/policies/DotAsia-Charter-Eligibility–COMPLETE-2007-08-15.pdf.

15 Aug 10 Transferring your Domain Name (except .EU, .UK and .WS)

Before proceeding with the Transfer, you are advised to first check the following:

Once you have confirmed the above, you may place a Transfer request for your Domain Name with Gossimer, by following the below mentioned steps:

Transfer Process for Customers:

  1. Login to your Control Panel from http://manage.gossimer.biz/customer.

  2. In the Control Panel, go to Domains -> Domain Registration -> Transfer. There, enter the Domain Name you wish to Transfer and the Domain (Transfer) Secret.

    IMPORTANT

    • In case of a .CC/.TV Domain Name, you may provide a Transfer Secret/Authorization Code if the Domain Name has a Transfer Secret/Authorization Code set at the Current Registrar. Otherwise, you can leave the Transfer Secret field blank.

    • The .WS Registry does not support Transfer of Domain Names between Registrars. Hence, a .WS Domain Name cannot be Transferred under any circumstance.

  3. Select the various Contacts (Registrant, Admin, Technical & Billing Contact) for this Domain Name. You may select from the available list of Contacts or Add a New Contact.

13 Aug 10 Transferring your .UK Domain Name

Before proceeding with the Transfer of your .UK Domain Name, you are advised to first confirm if your Domain Name can be Transferred. Click here to read more >>

IMPORTANT

  1. Inter-Registrar Transfer of a .UK Domain Name does not include one year Renewal.

  2. Transfer of a .UK Domain Name from another Registrar to Gossimer is a non-billable action.

The process of Transferring a .UK Domain Name from another Registrar is slightly different compared to the process for Domain Names under other extensions. In case of a .UK Domain Name, the inbound Transfer needs to be initiated at the Current Registrar’s end.

Once you have determined whether your .UK Domain Name can be Transferred, you need to follow the process mentioned below:

  1. Initiate the Transfer at the Current Registrar with whom you are managing your .UK Domain Name.

You need to provide a Tag in order to initiate the Transfer. Contact our Technical Support Team at support@gossimer.com to know the Tag.

  2. A notification will be sent to the Registrant Email Address once Gossimer receives a notification about the Transfer from the .UK Registry.

  3. This email will contain a Security Key associated with the Domain Name that you have Transferred.

    IMPORTANT

  4. Login to your Control Panel – Customers – http://manage.gossimer.biz/customer
    Resellers – http://manage.gossimer.biz/reseller

  5. In the Control Panel, Customers – go to Domains -> Domain Registration -> Transfer
    Resellers – go to Products -> Domain Registration -> Transfer<#end reseller#>

Now, enter your .UK Domain Name. You also need to provide the Security Key, which was sent to the Registrant Email Address.

    IMPORTANT

Here, you will be initiating the final step related to the Transfer of your .UK Domain Name to Gossimer and not a fresh Transfer.

On the next page, you need to provide the Customer Username (Email Address) under whom the Domain Name needs to be placed.

  6. Submit the details.

You will receive a notification via email from Gossimer, once the Domain Name has been activated under your Control Panel.

09 Aug 10 Transferring your Domain Name (except .EU, .UK and .WS) to Another Registrar

There may be cases where you wish to Transfer your Domain Name away from Gossimer, to another Registrar. The following process will assist you in ensuring a smooth Transfer of your Domain Name to the Registrar of your choice.

Step 1: Check if your Domain Name can be Transferred

Before proceeding with the Transfer, you are advised to first check if your Domain Name can be Transferred. Click here to read more >>

IMPORTANT

The .WS Registry does not support Transfer of Domain Names between Registrars. Hence, a .WS Domain Name cannot be Transferred under any circumstance.

Step 2: Apply for the Transfer at the New Registrar

Once you have determined whether a Domain Name can be Transferred, you will need to apply for the Transfer at the Registrar of your choice. Please refer to the New Registrar’s Transfer Process for the same. You would require the Domain (Transfer) Secret/Authorization Code to complete the Transfer process, except in case of a .EU, .UK, .CC and .TV Domain Name. Click here to know how to locate the Domain (Transfer) Secret/Authorization Code for your Domain Name >>

Once you have confirmed the Transfer with the New Registrar, we would receive an intimation about this Transfer. We would then be sending an email to the Registrant and Administrative Contacts of the Domain Name, informing them that a request for Transfer of this Domain Name has been placed with the New Registrar and if they do not wish to Transfer their Domain Name to this New Registrar, they should click on the Cancel Transfer Link within 5 days.

If the Registrant or Administrative Contact does not click on the Cancel Transfer Link, the Domain Name will get Transferred to the New Registrar, in 5 days, from you having approved the Transfer at the New Registrar.

08 Aug 10 Modifying the Whois / Contact Details of all Domain Names (except .EU and .UK)

We offer you a comprehensive set of features to allow you to manage your Domain Name Contact details easily. All Domain Names (except .EU) have four Contacts associated with them. The Registrant (which is the owner of the Domain Name), the Administrative Contact, the Technical Contact and the Billing Contact.

In our system, Contacts are separate from a Domain Name. We maintain a separate database of ALL Contact information that you have used for registering any Domain Name, separately in a Contact database. This allows you to re-use the Contact information for any other Domain Name registration without having to fill in all the values yourself.

All Domain Names have 4 associated Contacts with them. Think of this as linking Contacts from your Contact database to the Domain Names you Register. Whenever you change any Contact information in any Contact, it will automatically change that information in every Domain Name which uses that Contact information.

If you need to Modify your Contact Information for a Domain Name, simply follow the steps below -

  1. Login to your Control Panel and search for the domain name. Click here to find instructions for doing so >>

  2. Click on the Domain name in the search results to get to the Order details view.

  3. Click on the Modify Contact Details button.

  4. You now have two options of modifying the Contact Details for your Domain Name -

(i) Use your existing Contact Database: You will be shown 4 dropdowns in this option. These dropdowns will be populated with all the Contacts that this particular Customer has used in all Domain Registrations with us. You will be able to select the Contact you wish to apply for your Domain Name from this dropdown list.

(ii) Specify Contact Details: You will be able to separately modify the Contact information for the Domain Name by directly specifying it in the Text boxes. If you change the Name or Company Name, you would be asked, if you wish to change this particular Contact only or you want to reflect this change to all the Contacts that are using this. If you change any other details, then they would automatically be applied to the all the Contacts that are using this.

Thus, for example, if you are using the following Contact Details for only a particular Domain Name and NOT anywhere else –

Registrant Contact Details
Company :* My Company
Name:* My Name
Email Address :* myself@mydomain.com
Address1 :* My Address
Address2 :

Now, if you change the Name or Company Name or both for a Contact, you would be asked whether you wish to make the change for all the Contacts (Registrant, Billing, Admin & Technical) or simply change that particular Contact, and also if you wish to implement this change for all domains using this Contact.

On the other hand, if you change any other details, then all the Registrant, Admin and Technical Contact would be changed automatically for all domain names under that Customer using that particular Contact.

Apart from the above process, Contacts can be created and managed independent of the Domain Name(s), directly from within the Customer Control Panel. Click here to read how >>
