24 Jul 10 How can people Contact me if I enable Privacy Protection for my domain name?

Once you enable Privacy Protection for your domain name, the Contact Details for your domain name in any Whois Lookup query would display generic details. If someone attempts to contact you at these details, this is how they will be greeted:

  • Letters, Couriers delivered at the Postal Address would not be accepted. This implies, that you will not be contactable at the address displayed in your domain name Whois.

  • Telephone Callers would be advised to email you at the email address displayed in the whois of your domain name.

  • Email sent to the email address listed in the Whois, will get a response specifying an unbranded URL, which needs to be visited by this person. Upon visiting the site, they would be able to mention their query in a secure form, while specifying the type of Contact (Registrant, Administrative, Technical, Billing) they wish to email. The contents of the submitted form will then be emailed to the selected Contact’s (Registrant, Administrative, Technical or Billing) address, as specified in your Control Panel.

Therefore, you are assured of still being contactable, even though your Contact Details are not visible in the Whois of your domain name.

18 Jul 10 How can I Enable/Disable Privacy Protection for my domain name?

Privacy Protection is a free service available with your domain name. You may either enable this service at the time of registering/transferring your domain name or enable(/disable) this service anytime during the length of the domain name’s registration, as per your requirement.

IMPORTANT

  1. Privacy Protection is not available for the following domain name extensions:

    • .US, .IN (including .CO.IN, .NET.IN, .ORG.IN, .GEN.IN, .FIRM.IN, .IND.IN), .EU, .UK, .ASIA – Restrictions imposed by the Registry Operator

    • .COOP – Restrictions enforced through ICANN’s contract with the Sponsor/Registry Operator

  2. If you wish to have your domain name Transferred away from Gossimer for some reason, you need to first disable the Privacy Protection and then place a transfer request at the Registrar of your choice.

  3. Privacy Protection can be enabled/disabled only for those domain names which are not in locked/suspended status.

  4. Depending upon whether the Privacy Protection feature is available for a domain name or not, the Order Details view of your domain name may or may not display the Privacy Protection status, under Order Information.

Privacy Protection status Enabled – indicates that the Privacy Protection feature has been turned on for your domain name and your personal Contact Details are not being displayed in the Whois of your domain name.

Privacy Protection status Disabled – indicates that the Privacy Protection feature has been turned off for your domain name and your personal Contact Details are being displayed in the Whois of your domain name.

08 Jul 10 Modifying the Whois / Contact Details of all Domain Names (except .EU and .UK)

We offer you a comprehensive set of features to allow you to manage your Domain Name Contact details easily. All Domain Names (except .EU) have four Contacts associated with them. The Registrant (which is the owner of the Domain Name), the Administrative Contact, the Technical Contact and the Billing Contact.

In our system, Contacts are separate from a Domain Name. We maintain a separate database of ALL Contact information that you have used for registering any Domain Name, separately in a Contact database. This allows you to re-use the Contact information for any other Domain Name registration without having to fill in all the values yourself.

All Domain Names have 4 associated Contacts with them. Think of this as linking Contacts from your Contact database to the Domain Names you Register. Whenever you change any Contact information in any Contact, it will automatically change that information in every Domain Name which uses that Contact information.

If you need to Modify your Contact Information for a Domain Name, simply follow the steps below -

  1. Login to your Control Panel and search for the domain name. Click here to find instructions for doing so >>

  2. Click on the Domain name in the search results to get to the Order details view.

  3. Click on the Modify Contact Details button.

  4. You now have two options of modifying the Contact Details for your Domain Name -

(i) Use your existing Contact Database: You will be shown 4 dropdowns in this option. These dropdowns will be populated with all the Contacts that this particular Customer has used in all Domain Registrations with us. You will be able to select the Contact you wish to apply for your Domain Name from this dropdown list.

(ii) Specify Contact Details: You will be able to separately modify the Contact information for the Domain Name by directly specifying it in the Text boxes. If you change the Name or Company Name, you would be asked, if you wish to change this particular Contact only or you want to reflect this change to all the Contacts that are using this. If you change any other details, then they would automatically be applied to the all the Contacts that are using this.

Thus, for example, if you are using the following Contact Details for only a particular Domain Name and NOT anywhere else –

Registrant Contact Details
Company :* My Company
Name:* My Name
Email Address :* myself@mydomain.com
Address1 :* My Address
Address2 :
Address3 :
City :* My City
State :
Country :* United States of America
Zip :* 12343
Tel No. (Country Code – Phone Number) :*1 254146246

Fax no. :

Admin Contact Details
Company :* My Company
Name:* My Name
Email Address :* myself@mydomain.com
Address1 :* My Address
Address2 :
Address3 :
City :* My City
State :
Country :* United States of America
Zip :* 12343
Tel No. (Country Code – Phone Number) :*1 254146246

Fax no. :

Technical Contact Details
Company :* My Company
Name:* My Name
Email Address :* myself@mydomain.com
Address1 :* My Address
Address2 :
Address3 :
City :* My City
State :
Country :* United States of America
Zip :* 12343
Tel No. (Country Code – Phone Number) :*1 254146246

Fax no. :

Now, if you change the Name or Company Name or both for a Contact, you would be asked whether you wish to make the change for all the Contacts (Registrant, Billing, Admin & Technical) or simply change that particular Contact, and also if you wish to implement this change for all domains using this Contact.

On the other hand, if you change any other details, then all the Registrant, Admin and Technical Contact would be changed automatically for all domain names under that Customer using that particular Contact.

Apart from the above process, Contacts can be created and managed independent of the Domain Name(s), directly from within the Customer Control Panel. Click here to read how >>
