Gossimer’s Premier Web Hosting and Domain Registration Knowledgebase.
When you place a request for a domain name to be transferred to Gossimer, the system retrieves the whois details for the domain name by connecting to port 43 on the current Registrar’s Whois server. Once these are obtained, the system sends the transfer authorization email (containing the FOA, or Form of Authorization) to the Administrative contact, as seen therein.
If the email was not received by the Admin contact, you can click on Resend Authorization Request in your Control Panel, whereupon the system sends the mail to the same email address, retrieved as mentioned above.
However, if you were to change the Administrative contact email address for your domain name after the authorization mail was sent, attempting to Resend Authorization request would still send the email to the old address.
As such, if you want the authorization mail to be sent to a different email address, the only possible method is to
1. Contact our Support Team at support@gossimer.com, and ask them to Cancel the transfer request
2. Modify the Admin contact email address at the Current registrar
3. Reinitiate the transfer request from your Control Panel.

You may get this error when you execute a Transfer for a Domain Name (except a .EU Domain Name) from another Registrar to Gossimer.
In order to ensure that, an Authorised person is placing this Transfer Request, we send an email to the Administrative Contact of the Domain Name for authorising the transfer. We need to fetch the e-mail address of the Administrative Contact from the Current Whois Record from the Losing Registrar.
If for some reason we are unable to contact the Whois Server of the Current Registrar you will get this message. There are two things you can do at this stage -
1. You would have received an e-mail with instructions on sending a Fax authorisation for these transfers. You can use that fax authorisation to action the transfers.
2. You can simply wait for upto 48 hours. We would attempt to contact your Registrars Whois server for the Administrative contact details every hour for 24 hours, and even try the same manually. In almost all cases we will be able to send the Administrative Contact E-mail within 48 hours.
IMPORTANT
This process would not be applicable for a .EU Domain Name, since the Authorization mail is sent directly from the Registry to the Registrant Contact’s Email Address.

Upon successfully placing a Transfer Request [that is after you have paid for the same], your domain name’s Transfer action will initiate. You can easily track the status of your domain name’s transfer by following these steps:
1. Login to your Control Panel and search for the domain name for which you have placed the Transfer request.
2. Click on the domain name.
3. Note the Action Requested and the Status of the Action. There can be only 3 Statuses of a domain name that has not yet been transferred to Gossimer -
Trying to fetch Admin Contact Email Address:
Our system automatically fetches the Admin Contact e-mail address by contacting the Whois Server of the Current Registrar. However, sometimes the Current Registrar’s Whois Server does not respond to our request.
Ideally our system attempts to fetch these details every hour. In case, the Current Registrar’s Whois Server does not respond to our system, we have to manually fetch these details. If the status of your Transfer Order continues to display this status for over a few hours, please contact our Support Team at support@gossimer.com.
Transfer waiting for Admin Contact Approval:
Upon initiating a Transfer, our system sends an e-mail to the Admin Contact of the domain name as appearing in the Whois Server of the Current Registrar. You can verify the e-mail address we fetched from their Whois Server, at the time you initiated the transfer within the Order Details page itself.
In case the Admin Contact does not receive the Transfer Request in an hour after placing a transfer, you may resend the Transfer Request by clicking on the Resend Authorization Request button.
IMPORTANT
There might be instances where the Admin Contact Email Address was changed after the transfer request was placed. In such a case, clicking on Resend Authorization Request would NOT send the mail to the new Email address. To send the Email to the new address, the current transfer needs to be failed and a fresh transfer order needs to be placed.
Sometimes, it may be possible that the Admin Contact has still not received an e-mail sent by our system, due to any of several problems including network blockages, spam filters, etc.. To circumvent such a situation, you may click on the Transfer Fax Form button and follow the instruction therein, to send us your consent to Transfer your domain name to Gossimer.
We await for 5 days for the Administrative Contact to approve the Transfer. If the Administrative Contact remains silent (neither approves or disapproves the transfer), we assume that the Administrative Contact does not wish to transfer his domain name and we delete this Order in our system.
Transfer waiting for Losing Registrar Approval:
You may see this status when the Domain Name Holder has Approved the Transfer Request sent by Gossimer and now the transfer is awaiting the Current Registrar to approve the Transfer. Ideally, your domain name should transfer in 5 days since the time this status is displayed.

After you have registered your Domain Name, you can check the Whois of the same to confirm its Registration, check the Contact Details and Name Servers of the Domain Name. You can use either of the 3 methods mentioned below, to view the Whois of your Domain Name:
I. From the Storefront -
Visit your Storefront at http://manage.gossimer.biz and there go to Domain Names -> Whois
OR
you can simply click here – http://manage.gossimer.biz/whois.jsp.
Here, you would find 2 text boxes. In the first, you would have to, enter the Domain Name in the form domain.com or mydomain.info etc. and not www.domain.com, and in the second box, enter the Security Key, which appears in the image alongside. On submitting this, you can check the Whois of the Domain Name.
II. From your Control Panel -
- Follow the steps mentioned below to view the Whois from your Control Panel -
- Login to your Control Panel:Resellers, do so from http://manage.gossimer.biz/reseller;
Customers, do so from http://manage.gossimer.biz/customer.
- Customers: Go to Domains -> Domain Registration -> Whois Lookup.Resellers: Go to Products -> Domain Registration -> Whois Lookup.
- Here, you would find 2 text boxes. In the first, you would have to, enter the Domain Name in the form domain.com or mydomain.info etc. and not www.domain.com, and in the second box, enter the Security Key, which appears in the image alongside. On submitting this, you can check the Whois of the Domain Name.
III. From a reliable 3rd party Whois Provider -
When using any third party Whois websites, you need to ensure that you understand the following:
- When verifying the registration details of .com/.net domain names, no 3rd party Whois site will be able to display accurate Whois Details until up to 24 hours after registration. This is so because other Providers need to first query the concerned Registry’s Whois Servers, to acquire the Whois Server URL of the Sponsoring Registrar [before querying the Registrar's Whois Server for complete Whois Details] and the Registry’s Whois Server itself updates its records in that much time.
- When verifying the registration details of any other domain name extension [like .info, .org, .biz, .in, .us], the Registry itself stores all the Registration Details and any 3rd party Whois directly queries the concerned Registry’s Whois Server for such details. Ideally, the Registry’s Whois Server should publish/update this data in every 5 to 10 minutes.
- Most 3rd party Whois sites cache results from previous results of the queried domain names and may misguide you. We would advise you to instead use http://www.drwhois.com, when you wish to have a 3rd opinion of a particular domain name’s registration details.
